Genetic fingerprinting: past, present and future

Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys will discuss the origins of DNA fingerprinting through to the latest developments and their social impact.

Discovered in 1984, DNA fingerprinting has become an indelible part of society, helping to prove innocence or guilt in criminal cases, resolving immigration arguments and clarifying paternity.

With the exception of identical twins, we all have a unique genetic code and by using this fact DNA-based identification has transformed legal and forensic medicine.

Join us at The Chemistry Centre with the inventor of the DNA fingerprinting technique, Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, who will discuss the origins of the technique through to the latest developments and their social impact.
