Picture This! Exploring depictions of people in early medieval Northern Europe

Depictions of people in early medieval Northern Europe

In the early medieval period (c.AD500-1000) depictions of people are not ' portraits' but it is clear that artists paid attention to certain details - such as hairstyles - to emphasise an individual's characteristics. This lecture by Dr Meggan Gondek from the University of Chester, will explore some of these distinguishing traits and how people of the past might have expressed meaning though their depiction of the human body.
