China's growing role in Madagascar

Cornelia Schiller of SOAS will give an overview of Chinese engagements in Madagascar and how these may impact economic & social developments in Madagascar.

Cornelia Schiller of SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London) will give an overview of Chinese engagements in Madagascar. She will provide a brief historical review of the Chinese community in Madagascar and then focus on the new wave of Chinese state-led and private investments and commerce in recent years, and especially since the start of the current crisis, using information gathered during her PhD fieldwork. She will also discuss ways in which these engagements may impact economic and social developments in Madagascar.

The ticket price for the evening event includes a free bar and delicious Malagasy buffet. There will be a chance to chat with the speaker and mingle with others to chat about Madagascar before and after the lecture.
