Air pollution: the silent killer

Talk on solutions to air pollution by Simon Birkett of Clean Air in London

Air pollution in London is the second biggest cause of premature deaths after smoking. Fine particles (PM 2.5) alone are estimated to have caused around 4,000 premature deaths in 2008. On many of our roads pollution levels are well over twice the legal limits. Simon Birkett is the founder of the campaign for Clean Air in London, and will talk to us about the solutions to the problem. The meeting is open to all, with time for Q&A and discussion about what steps we can take next.

Simon Birkett has been presented with a London 2012 Sustainability Ambassadors Award for his outstanding contribution to achieving a truly sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games, and was chosen as one of six international individuals of the year by the Guardian in 2010.
