Engaging with Realism: Edouard Manet and George Bellows

The curators of 'Manet: Portraying Life' and ‘George Bellows’ probe the two artists’ interpretations of Realism.


Both the French artist Edouard Manet and the American artist George Bellows saw their respective worlds through the lens of realism. The curators of Manet: Portraying Life and ‘George Bellows’ – MaryAnne Stevens, Ann Dumas, and Charles Brock (National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC) – probe the two artists’ individual interpretations.
