Fra Angelico

A member of the Dominican order, Fra Angelico (Brother Angel, 1395-1455) produced religious art that still dazzles with its grace and colour.

A member of the Dominican order, Fra Angelico (Brother Angel, 1395-1455) produced religious art that still dazzles with its grace and colour, yet can be disarmingly simple, pared down and direct. He was one of the few Florentine artists to integrate the decorative charm of the International Gothic style with the more structural sensibilities of the Renaissance, creating an exquisite painted world where the fascinating iconography of the Madonna and saints finds expression through the eye of faith.
