Rubens Unravelled: Mars, Venus and Cupid

Saturday Study Mornings: The Art of Looking.
An exciting new series of talks looking at the paintings of Dulwich Picture Gallery set in their wider art historical context.

This remarkable painting is part of a series of works by Rubens, works which celebrate peace and maternal fecundity. The talk explores the relationship between these paintings, the artist’s own family life, his diplomatic role and the broader context of the Thirty Years’ War.With Dr Margit Thofner, Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia.
