Against a Tide of Evil: Genocide in Darfur

Dr Mukesh Kapila reflects on his experiences in Darfur when he attempted to alert the world to the unfolding genocide.

Former United Nations Sudan chief Dr Mukesh Kapila will reflect on his experiences in Darfur when he attempted to alert the world to the unfolding genocide, and consider the current crises in Sudan today. There has been little peace and no justice for the people in Darfur. The architects of the crimes committed there remain at large. The Sudanese government continues to commit atrocities and other crimes against humanity throughout its borderlands. Dr Kapila will highlight the importance of individual accountability as well as collective responsibility in the prevention of genocide and other crimes against humanity in Sudan and around the world.

Dr Mukesh Kapila is Aegis Trust Special Representative for preventing crimes against humanity. He is also Professor of Global Health at Manchester University. He was head of UN operations in Sudan during the Darfur genocide was one of the first UK officials to arrive in Rwanda following the genocide. He has extensive experience as a high level international diplomat across the UN, Red Cross and government. He is the author of Against a Tide of Evil: How One Man Became the Whistleblower to the First Mass Murder of the Twenty-First Century.
