Six Designers in Search of Authenticity

Honorary Grduate Lecture 2013 - Deyan Sudjic

From the ex military parka to the restoration of a vintage Bugatti, the provenance of a Warhol’s Brillo box or the font used by the Obama election campaign, designers, artists and architects strive for the most elusive of qualities, authenticity. But what does authenticity mean in the digital age, when design has turned into the most knowing of professions, dedicated to faking the signs of authenticity as faithfully as possible?

Deyan Sudjic is one of this year’s Honorary Graduates and Director of the Design Museum in London.
