ID presents Crossing Borders, 26 Nov, Kate Genevieve

Crossing Borders is a series of talks curated by Frank Bock that invites UK and international practitioners whose work understands movement and embodiment through a variety of different forms. Art practice, neuroscience, somatics and curation underpin the many contexts where such explorations take place.

Insular – Neuroscience, Embodiment and Sharing Interiority: artist Kate Genevieve explores questions on how we draw the line between the self and the environment.
Kate’s art practice uses audio-visual installation and performance to probe the multi-sensory experience of audiences. At Crossing Borders she will share recent work and her ongoing research into multi disciplinary perspectives on bodily perception and how we separate the self from the world. The discussion will focus on the work completed during her residency at the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science at the University of Sussex that used emerging technologies such as virtual reality and bio-sensors to explore how neuroscientists are manipulating bodily experience with multi-sensory cues.

Kate is an artist based in Brighton, UK. Her art practice brings together research in science, technology and performance around changing descriptions of the human subject in technology-mediated interactions with their environment and each other. Her recent art projects have been funded by Arts Council England, Brighton and Hove City Council and the Performing Arts Lab. Kate founded C H R Θ M A in 2010 - an interdisciplinary group creating immersive visual performances. Her projects have been shown at the London Science Museum, Brighton Fringe and Oxford’s Light Night as well as in unusual sites, such as heritage castles and modernist tower blocks. Kate is working on an art practice PHD at the University of Sussex and teaches Creative Media Practice and Digital Media Art on MA programmes at the Universities of Sussex and Brighton.
