Building Britain's sustainable energy future

Imperial Business Insights Series lecture with Paul Maher, Divisional Managing Director, Siemens Infrastructure & Cities Smart Grid Division UK

The existing UK electrical network was designed for large scale centralised generation from variable output plant. What is the current status of the network and what are the future challenges of integrating emerging renewable energy sources into an existing critical electrical infrastructure? The big challenges facing Britain are security of supply, energy mix, environmental impact and affordability of the government agenda. How do we overcome the diverse and complex challenges of an evolving energy system with pragmatic, joined-up solutions?
