20 Years On...Women and The Miner's Strike

The miners' strike of 1984-5 is often remembered for the extraordinary and exceptional involvement of women in the mining communities. Jean McCrindle was Treasurer of Women Against Pit Closures during the strike, and will reflect on this troubled and contradictory event.

The miners' strike of 1984-5 is often remembered for the extraordinary and exceptional involvement of women in the mining communities. 20 years on their participation is still celebrated as a legendary moment in the history of the Labour Movement, and yet the strike was decisively defeated.
