Artist's Talk

Nadia and Timo Kaabi-Linke will be in conversation with cultural scientist Dr Falko Schmieder to discuss Nadia’s first UK solo exhibition, The Future Rewound & The Cabinet of Souls, currently on at The Mosaic Rooms.

Nadia Kaabi-Linke’s practice relates to places and their histories. The discussion will focus on this aspect of her work through examining the new installations created for this exhibition. This talk will offer fascinating insight into her process of conceiving and materialising these new comissions. Revealing further details on her artistic approach and the historical and analytical research which gave shape to the concepts threading the works and the exhibition.

Nadia Kaabi-Linke was born in 1978 in Tunis. She studied at the University of Fine Arts, Tunis (1999) before receiving a PhD from the Sorbonne, Paris (2008). She has exhibited worldwide and her works are part of several public and private collections including that of MOMA, New York. In 2011 she won the Abraaj Capital Art Prize and this year she won the Discoveries Prize at Basel Hong Kong. She lives and works in Berlin with husband curator Timo.

Timo Kaabi-Linke is writer, philosopher and art critic, who lives and works in Berlin, Germany. His major philosophical concern is how artistic productions and conceptions change under the condition of a technically and socially connected world. He has participated in international conferences and published articles in several languages on topics related to art, cultural studies, political sciences and technology studies. In 2012, he founded the platform Carthage Contemporary in Tunis, Tunisia.

Dr Falko Schmieder is a cultural scientist. He has studied Communications, Political Science and Sociology at various German Universities. Since 2005 he has worked as a researcher at the Center for Literary and Cultural Research Berlin.
