THE COURSE offers art history lectures, guided museum visits and London walks.
Symbolic, illuminating, awe inspiring – the mastery of light has been a vital tool of the western artist. This course, five lectures and gallery visits, looks at such forms as stained glass, the natural light of Constable, the brooding emotion of Rubens and the reflections of Impressionism in an attempt to understand the fascination of light and its immense possibilities for the artist.
LIGHT OF THE WORLD
How does light affect the way we see the physical world? Modelling, reflections, the haze of morning, sunset, candle, gas or limelight – the mastery of realism, the atmosphere of great landscapes, the spontaneity of Impressionism all depend on the mastery of subtle effects to create illusion. And we will examine all these in this session
