Discovering People: John Sergeant

Join Libby Purves in conversation with journalist, broadcaster, political author and former Strictly contestant John Sergeant as he discusses his distinguished career and reveals a passion for India's railways and Britain's canals. John Sergeant has reported from 25 countries as a BBC journalist, often travelling with the Prime Minister during the 21 years he worked in Westminster. He was the BBC's acting war correspondent in a number of key postings, reporting from Saigon and Washington during the Vietnam War, and from Paris after the 1981 election of Mitterrand. This summer, he will be exploring Pompeii with historian Bettany Hughes.
