Brahms Reheard

Jacqueline Ross and Ursula Smith are joined by postgraduate students from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama for a performance of the Brahms Sextet Op 18 in Bb.

Jacqueline Ross and Ursula Smith are joined by postgraduate students from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama for a performance of the Brahms Sextet Op 18 in Bb. This performance-lecture will explore the Joachim approach to string playing through the earliest performance editions.

This session forms part of Jacqueline Ross's research project, Brahms Reheard. This project seeks to develop a method for creating engaging performances in historical context. At the centre of this project is a radically new approach to the understanding of Brahms' string writing - through the study and transcription of his vocal music.
