Heinrich Neuhaus: Subjectivity & The Pianist

Dr Maria Razumovskaya (Guildhall School of Music & Drama) presents an exploration of Neuhaus's distinct vision of a performer's subjectivity.

Dr Maria Razumovskaya (Guildhall School of Music & Drama) presents an exploration of Neuhaus's distinct vision of a performer's subjectivity and reveals his importance in championing a powerful interdisciplinary practice adopted in Soviet Russia by creative artists determined to escape the banality and limitations imposed by Socialist Realism.

Maria Razumovskaya's PhD, Heinrich Neuhaus: Aesthetics and Philosophy of an Interpretation, was completed as an AHRC scholar at the Royal College of Music. She is currently working on a monograph on Heinrich Neuhaus as well as several articles on aspects of Russian pianism.
