Preview – ‘Inside Israel’s Jails’
Monday 14th March - 7.30pm
Followed by Q&A with Nick Read, film director
Film Duration - 60 minutes

Israel’s jails are at bursting point. Since the beginning of the second intifada the number of Palestinians behind bars has increased 5 times.

With unprecedented access, the filmmakers go inside 2 of the country’s highest security prisons – Be’er Sheva & Hasheron. Many of the inmates are regarded by their Israeli guards as the most dangerous terrorists in their custody – men & women who have ‘blood on their hands’. Among those interviewed is Abdullah Barghouti (Marwan’s cousin) who has just received the longest sentence ever handed out by Israeli courts: 67 life sentences.

But among the regular Palestinian prisoners & their guards, unexpected relations emerge. Often this is the first time each side has ever talked to their enemy before. Locked up together it’s a daily battle of wits & words - not without humour or humanity.
