Climbing the Walls:

In conjunction with our “Outrageous Wallpapers” exhibition, this study day will look at the changing place papers have had on our walls and in our minds.

Wallpaper has been part of our lives for 500 years. These days it is often written off as a mere backdrop – or worse. But at different times and for different people it has, and still does, loom large – whether in terms of its big, bold patterns, as a chosen expressive element in our surroundings, or as a conveyor of feelings and memories.
