What makes a building an icon? Is it height? Is it shape? Is it colour? Might it be "design quality"? Or is it that mysterious "enigmatic signifier"? And does culture have a role in all this? Jean- Louis Cohen, Charles Jencks and Jeremy Melvin will re-examine this much talked about subject.
