The life and work of Beatrix Potter

Free talk to celebrate 100 years of the City Art Gallery (now Bristol's Museum & Art Gallery)

To many, the name of Beatrix Potter is connected solely with the delightful little books encountered in their childhood, but there is much more to tell than that. Born in 1866 into a wealthy middle-class family in London, Beatrix spent the latter half of her life as a farmer and prize-winning sheep breeder in the Lake District. A talented natural history artist, later she became a landscape painter and expert on fungi and acquired a detailed knowledge of furniture and architecture. The talk acompanies the exhibition on Beatrix Potter at the City Museum & Art Gallery at this time.
