Lecture Series: The Royal Navy in the French Wars, 1793-1815: Part 2

Weekly lecture series over eight weeks examining the Royal Navy in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.


The second of two complementary lecture series examining the Royal Navy in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The first, ‘Command and Tactics’, in autumn 2005, examined the success of the fighting Navy in action The second, ‘Men and Matériel’, will examine the social and technological resources that made these successes possible. The course will include a study of victualling organization, ship design, dockyards, seamanship, life on board, health, medicine and prisoners of war.
