My Son The Fanatic by Udayan Prasad, UK, 1997, with with Om Puri, Akbar Kurtha

Film Followed by a talk with Hanif Kureishi

To tie in with an international conference, 'Intellectuals and War from Verdun to Baghdad', we have invited Hanif Kureishi to take part into a talk after the screening of My Son the Fanatic, the 1997 film adapted from his short story (Friday 14 October, 8.30pm). An account of the conflict between a westernised Pakistani man and his Muslim fundamentalist son both living in the UK, the film was released before 9/11 and 7/7, but is now perhaps more topical than ever.
