Personal recollections from a friend of artist Stanley Spencer, who watched him paint his last masterpieces.
Carolyn Lucas spent her teenage years in Cockham, Berkshire. Stanley Spencer became a family friend and she was a frequent visitor to his house in the Rise where she watched him paint his last masterpieces.
Her recollections of him were those of a young friend and neighbour who happened to have an interest in art and with whom he was only too happy to share his thoughts, while she sat on his bed, watched him work.....and listened!
