Pets and Us

A morning with Dr Anthony Podberscek

Pet and us: Exploring human-companion animal relationships

Keeping animals as favourites - as pets - goes back to our earliest ancestors. In this talk Dr Podberscek will cover aspects of the history of our relationships with companion animals, ending with a look at how things are now. In addition, he will talk about the different roles that dogs and cats have in society and the potential benefits of owning and interacting with these animals.

Dr Podberscek is a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge and Editor-in-Chief of Anthrozoos (a journal about the interactions of people and animals). His main interests are human-animal relationships/interactions: specifically companion animal behaviour and the treatment of behaviour problems, attitudes to animals, personality research (pets and owners) and representations of animals and animal issues in the media. He is also the Editor of the recently published ‘Companion animals and us: exploring the relationships between people and pets’ .His talk will cover some of these topics.

This event will be fascinating for pet owners, trainers, fellow animal behaviourists, people involved with rescue centres, dog wardens, veterinary personnel, and anyone with an interest in animal behaviour.
