America’s Edge: A Global Country in a Global Century

LSE Space for Thought lecture series

American is not in decline, but in fact is (or will be) rising in many ways, but it requires seeing the world very differently, with an equal emphasis on Europe and Asia and a new emphasis on Latin America and Africa.

Anne-Marie Slaughter is Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Bert G. Kerstetter '66 University Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University. Prior to becoming Dean, she was the J. Sinclair Armstrong Professor of International, Foreign and Comparative Law and the Director of Graduate and International Legal Studies at Harvard Law School. She is also the former President of the American Society of International Law. Dean Slaughter is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and serves on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations. Drawing from this rich interdisciplinary expertise, Slaughter writes and teaches broadly on global governance, international criminal law, and American foreign policy. Her most recent book is The Idea that Is America: Keeping Faith with Our Values in a Dangerous World (Basic Books). She is also the author of A New World Order, in which she identified transnational networks of government officials as an increasingly important component of global governance.

The Space for Thought Lecture series celebrates the completion of the New Academic Building and is supported by the LSE Annual Fund. The next lecture in this series will be delivered by Professor Richard Evans on the topic of The Third Reich at War on Tuesday 4 November.
