Education futures...

London's success – Its large pool of international talent, Sir John Stuttard, Pro-Chancellor, City University London

In his inaugural lecture, City University London's Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, Sir John will examine how the City remains successful.

In recent years, London has been acclaimed as the world's prime international financial centre, marginally ahead of New York, with Hong Kong and Singapore further behind in third and fourth place respectively. While other cities, such as Dubai, Mumbai and Shanghai are trying to develop financial centres, London has many advantages - its ethics, regulatory environment, rule of law, attractive location and, most important, its large pool of professional talent. Sir John Stuttard will speak about London's key success factors, the risks threatening its supremacy and the actions needed, not least in the field of education, in order to ensure that the City remains successful.

Sir John Stuttard, MA

Sir John Stuttard started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a partner from 1975 to 2005 and is now a Vice-Chairman.

He was seconded for two years in the early 80s to the UK Government Cabinet Office (Central Policy Review Staff or "Think Tank") advising Ministers on the nationalised industries and their privatisation.

He was Sheriff of London in 2005 and then Lord Mayor and therefore chancellor of City University London in 2006. In this capacity his main role was representing, supporting and promoting the UK-based financial, maritime and business services industry.
