Marsilio Ficino: the man and his writings

The day considers the work of Ficino, who was at the heart of the Renaissance which spread from Italy throughout Europe.

Marsilio Ficino(1433- 99), Florentine priest and philosopher, musician and doctor, translated and commented on all the works of Plato.
Hear more about him and his commentary to Plato's Parmenides, which deals with the single reality behind the multifarious phenomena which constitute our normal experience of life.

Speaker: Arthur Farndell, M.A.(Cantab), author of Gardens of Philosophy and A Mahabharata Companion, and translator of Ficino's commentary to Parmenides, which forms the subject of the afternoon session.
He has spent 35 years working with others to produce translations of Ficino's letters, seven volumes of which have already been published; the eighth is due to appear soon.
