Tales from Ovid

Read by Laurence Hill

Ovid’s Metamorphoses was his greatest work. In 15 books of legends, he tells the story of the world through poems of metamorphosis - people changing into animals and trees, stones changing into people. The late poet laureate, Ted Hughes, rewrote 24 of the stories, joining centuries of writers including Shakespeare and Chaucer who have been inspired by Ovid.

Laurence Hill works at Fabrica and has always been fascinated by Ovid's
stories. In some dim, distant and therefore possibly mythical past he
trained as an actor. He reads from contemporary versions of Metamorphoses in poetry and prose.
