Fridrik Erlings 'In Conversation' with Nick Tucker

The discussion will represent an exploration of the challenges of translating literature from around the world

Fridrik Erlings was born in Reykjavik, Iceland. As a writer, screenwriter, graphic designer and musician, he has proved himself as one of the most famous and accomplished Icelanders of his generation. In 1986 he founded the alternative rock band The Sugarcubes with Einar Orn Benediktsson and Bjork before leaving music to pursue writing. Fridrik has written and translated numerous lyrics, written scripts for film and television as well as biographies and fictional work for people of all ages. Fridrik's books for young people include Benjamin Dove (1992), Fish in the Sky (1998) and Lesser Brethen (2000). Benjamin Dove has been translated into seven languages and has also been made into a feature film (1995), which won awards at eight international film festivals. Benjamin Dove was translated into English and published by Meadowside Children's Books in 2005. In 2008, Meadowside also published Fish in the Sky, which was translated by Fridrik himself. He is currently translating Brother Lucifer, to be published by Meadowside in August 2010.
