Lunchtime Lecture: Soldaderas, modern girls and Catholic ladies: Mexican women from 1900-1950

Images of Mexican women, like the iconic photograph of a bandolier-clad soldier and the intimate picture of Frida Kahlo painting while bedridden, have circulated widely in Mexico and beyond. Patience Schell, Manchester University juxtaposes familiar images with the every day experiences and struggles of Mexican women: Catholic activists, modern girls and rural women.
