Watts Symposium: Decorating Sacred Spaces

Day One exploring artists who have decorated spiritual spaces to create a context for Mary Watts's Cemetery Chapel.


Summer 2010 will celebrate Mary Watts's Cemetery Chapel, a pioneering community art project completed in 1904 in the village of Compton, Surrey. Day One at St Paul's Cathedral will explore artists who have been inspired to decorate sacred spaces, moving onto focus upon the Watts Cemetery Chapel on Day Two, when the event moves to Compton and includes a accompanied visit to the Chapel. Speakers include:

Timonty Hyman, Painter; Lead Curator of Tate's Stanley Spencer Retrospective 2001; Co-curator of British Vision (Ghent, 2007-2008)
