Cane Toads: An Unnatural History (1988)

Dr. Joe Cain (UCL Science and Technology Studies) will introduce this short film, and afterwards lead a lively panel discussion on the complexities of ‘invasive’ and ‘native’ species.

Step back into 1980s Australia and meet the infamous Cane Toad: in the Outback, outsized, and out of control. An eccentric cast of characters reflects on the impact of this alien amphibian – originally introduced to eradicate pests from sugarcane crops – and offer a hilarious insight into life in small-town Oz.
