With its member states cutting spending sharply, what are the prospects for the EU's budget to 2020? Will Europe be able to meet pressing global challenges?

Janusz Lewandowski is European commissioner for financial programming and budget, a position he has held since February 2010. He served as Polish Minister for Privatisation in 1991, and from 1992-93. He received both his Phd (economics) and Masters degree (economics) from the University of Gdańsk.
