Being Biblical, Being Gay

Part of the "Bible Opened for All" series. A group of inspiration speakers explore if we can discover an inclusive faith for all.

In this year’s Autumn Education Series we seek to engage deeply with the Christian Scriptures, in the context of our 21st century world and our lives.
Can we discover an inclusive vision of the kingdom where all are welcome irrespective of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and ability? How can we understand and truthfully interpret a Bible which has so often been used to support prejudice, exclude and condemn? In these lectures a varied and challenging group of speakers seek to engage deeply with the Christian Scriptures, in the context of our 21st century world and lives and grapple with some of the most difficult issues of Biblical interpretation which continue to divide the Church.

Clare Herbert has worked extensively in pastoral care and lectured in both pastoral and feminist theology. She was formerly Rector of St Anne’s Soho, and then Programme Director of Inclusive Church and Chair of London and Southwark Changing Attitude. She is an ‘out’ lesbian priest and member of St Martin-in-the-Fields clergy team specialising in inclusive theology.

Arnold Browne was Dean of Trinity College Cambridge. In retirement in Norwich he continues to combine pastoral ministry in his local parish and prison with teaching for the deanery and diocese and writing. He has written on the bible and sexuality, including chapters in Sex and the Christian Tradition (ed. Jeremy Morris) and An Acceptable Sacrifice? Homosexuality and the Church (eds. Duncan Dormer and Jeremy Morris). He has been married to Caroline for 34 years.
