Valentinus and the Valentinians
Valentinus was one of the most talented religious teachers of his day, and the Valentinian school of gnosticism was one of the most vigorous and long-lived versions of gnosticism. In this illustrated slide lecture, Jonathan Hill reveals their beliefs and notions - eulogised by Elaine Pagels adn being monist, life affirming and mystical. We explore The gospel of truth, a remarkable document from the Nag Hammadi Library and probably written by Valentinus himself; it is a declaration of the unknown name of the Father, and having that Name will allow one to penetrate the veil of ignorance that creates spiritual separation -- and thus cause ultimate spiritual union.
