Visions of Rome: Piranesi & the Forum

David Watkin Professor Emeritus of the History of Architecture University of Cambridge gives this fascinating talk

The Roman Forum is one of the most famous of all historic sites - the heart of the ancient city, the hub of the Roman empire, the goal of tens of thousands of tourists. This lecture contrasts Giovanni Battista Piranesi's magnificent 18th c etchings with the archaeological remains to be seen today.
