Creating an Irish Ireland: Cultural Life after the War of Independence

Talk by Dr Michael Huggins, University of Chester

Inheriting many of the images of 19th century romantic nationalism the Irish Free State set about constructing a self-consciously Gaelic national identity in the years after independence. This lecture looks at the origins & varieties of 'Irish Ireland' and the extent to which it succeeded in its political objectives.
