DIY Educate: Show and Tell: Graham Crowley

Artist Talks to create a realistic idea of what it is to be a professional artist today.

Artists will be encouraged to talk about their own practice - in the widest sense - from their choice of subject matter, themes, and inspirations to getting shown, and their daily routine and studio practice. Concentrating on practical ways to sustain a practice, through good times and bad, success and disappointment, we ask experienced mid-career artists: how did you get where you are today and how do you survive as an artist?

Graham Crowley was educated at St Martin's School of Art in the late 1960's and went on to study at the RCA. Since then he has exhibited in commercial and public galleries throughout the UK and Ireland, Europe and the USA, and has work in numerous national and international public collections, gaining him widespread critical and media attention. Exploring interchangeable roles as artist, lecturer and tutor, Crowley was Professor of Painting at the RCA between 1998 and 2006, Artist in Residence at Dulwich Picture Gallery from 1993-94, Artist in Residence to The Riverside Project from 1991-92, Senior Fellow at Cardiff College of Art from 1986-89 and Artist in Residence to Oxford University from 1982-83.
