Are there still Jews in Ethiopia?

Sybil Sheridan will present a talk on the Beta Yisrael in Gondar, Ethiopia


In Gondar over eight thousand Beta Yisrael wait and pray that next year they will be in Jerusalem. Their hopes for emigration to Israel are complicated by the fact their grandparents converted to Christianity, but they want to be Jews and are currently living a Jewish life.

With the help of an American charity they have built a school and a synagogue, but their lives are uncertain, never knowing if next week, next month or next year, they will be called to collect their passport and go....
