Compliant or Confrontational?: The Protestant Church and the Holocaust

Dr Christian Staffa in conversation with Canon Dr Giles Fraser.

The Wiener Library welcomes Dr Christian Staffa, theologian and former director of Action Reconciliation Service for Peace, in conversation with Canon Dr Giles Fraser, theologian and former Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral.

This talk will examine the role of the Protestant Church during the Second World War and the impact and legacy of the Holocaust upon the Protestant Church in post-war Germany. Dr Staffa will outline the key challenges faced by the Protestant Church under National Socialism, how its response can be characterised, and the position of the Protestant Church and its approach to history in contemporary Germany. Canon Dr Giles Fraser’s response will include drawing out a number of key issues for further discussion and debate.

There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience following the discussion.
