Stage Managed and Vacuous

Posted at 6:14 PM on 2 August, 2009 by Geoff Webb

I wrote to Lib Dem MEP Andrew Duff on 29th May following some rather unhelpful comments he made concerning job losses being suffered by my unions members in the defence sector. I followed this up by writing to his agent and then Nick Clegg, all to no avail.

In desperation I attended the event ‘Nick Clegg meets Luton’ last night only to have my question passed over in favour of some rather unchallenging queries from party members at least one of which was a councillor, although he did not announce himself as such.

We hear a lot about the ‘New Politics’ from the Lib Dems but there is nothing particularly new about MEPs who will not answer their constituent’s letters and stage managed meetings designed to give a superficial gloss to party leaders so a little humility might be called for from the party.
