Welcome to the Open Air Palace of Varieties! Meet the Mighty Atom, the Amazing Blondini, Prince Monolulu, Lord Mustard and The Man with X-Ray Eyes! London was their backdrop and the streets their stage. These showmen could stand on a street corner, gather a crowd, keep them entertained and (hopefully) be rewarded in cash â“ sometimes whilst defying the long arm of the law. Set against a backdrop of London from the 1930âs to the 60âs, this film traces a tradition of people who chose to defy class structure and take their chances on the road, in a theatrical business slightly above begging.
