Asia Research Centre public lecture
UK forces have been in Afghanistan for over a decade but Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander MP will argue that it will be Britain's relations with Pakistan that will dominate Britain's focus on the region in the coming decade. Given the multiple challenges facing Pakistan new thinking and new energy is needed to redefine Britain's security, development and diplomatic relations with this country.
Douglas Alexander MP is Shadow Foreign Secretary and Member of Parliament for Paisley and Renfrewshire South. Between May 2001 â“ May 2010 he served in a wide range of ministerial positions including as Secretary of State for Transport, Secretary of State for Scotland including from 2007 to 2010 as Secretary of State for International Development. He served as UK's Governor to the World Bank between June 2007 and May 2010. Prior to entering Parliament in 1997, he qualified and practiced as a lawyer in Scotland.
