Richard Owen’s Terrible Lizards: the Birth of Dinosauria

Join Museum fossil expert Paul Barrett to discover the impact that Owen’s work has had on our knowledge and understanding of dinosaurs, with examples drawn from Museum specimens on which Owen himself actually worked.

Richard Owen was one of the first scientists to realise that the fossilised bones of giant reptiles found in southern England were the remains of a fantastic group of extinct animals. In 1842 he described them using the name Dinosauria. Join Museum fossil expert Paul Barrett to discover the impact that Owen’s work has had on our knowledge and understanding of dinosaurs, with examples drawn from Museum specimens on which Owen himself actually worked.
