Leading sports engineer Dr David James explores the impact of technology on Paralympic sport at this free-to-attend lecture.
Join leading sports engineer Dr David James for an exploration of the impact of technology on Paralympic sport at this free-to-attend lecture.
About the lecture
In our rapidly changing technological age, how do we ensure that the values of sport are not corrupted by the enhancement techniques pioneered by the sports scientist and engineer?
From the latest developments in prosthetics to the fastest bikes in the world, new technologies continue to push the limits of athletic performance to ever greater heights. However, at the core of all sports remains the concept of fairness â“ the idea that it is only the virtuous perfection of natural talents that makes a true champion.
This talk will explore the impact of technology in Paralympic sport and will reveal where the future may take us.
The speaker
The talk is presented by Dr David James, a leading sports engineer and the Royal Academy of Engineeringâs Public Engagement Fellow. He has been privileged to work within the Centre for Sports Engineering Research for eleven years and has published extensively in a range of sports engineering areas.
Davidâs current research is focusing on the historical impact of technology in track and field events and the ethical considerations of an increasingly scientific sporting arena. He is an elected member of the International Sports Engineering Association executive committee.
The lecture is free to attend and will be followed by a networking drinks reception.
