Socio-cultural factors increasing risk of HIV in pregnant & married women in SE Madagascar

Social & cultural factors that increase HIV risk in Madagascar, and why the country's HIV prevalence may be on the increase.

Ailie Tam, former HIV specialist for Azafady and now HIV Care Manager at the Terrence Higgins Trust, will talk about lessons learnt from her experience in Madagascar and her research findings. She will illustrate the socio-cultural factors which increase the risk of pregnant and married women contracting HIV in southern Madagascar.

Despite the prevalence of HIV being currently low in Madagascar, Ailie will explain why there is cause for concern that Madagascar may be following in the footsteps of other African countries.

Please note: this lecture is part of a Madagascar-themed event incorporating three lectures, including a break for lunch (food provided). For details of the whole event, see http://www.facebook.com/events/299190820142296/

The ticket price for the evening event includes a free bar and delicious Malagasy buffet. There will be a chance to chat with the speakers and mingle with others to chat about Madagascar before and after the lecture.

Venue: Upper Vestry Hall at St George's Bloomsbury (near Tottenham Court Road and Holborn underground stations).
