Prior to a performance by Manchester Camerata, Laurence Perkins, principal bassoon, reflects on his 30 years in the Ensemble.
Rising star, soprano Kate Royal, who is also performing at Glyndebourne this year, provides the angelic, radiant voice which sings about a child's vision of heaven in the chamber ensemble transcription of Mahler's most accessible and intimate symphony. The concert also includes Wagner's lyrical reworking of themes from Siegfried, written as a birthday present for his wife Cosima, and first performed outside her bedroom door on Christmas Day, and Britten's Sinfonietta, written when the composer was still a student yet showing a maturity which foretold of the greatness to come. Talking Point at 6.30pm: Laurence Perkins, principal bassoon, reflects on 30 years in Manchester Camerata.
