This evening is for people interested in knowing more about Tantra and about its actual origins and practices.
Say Tantra and most people think sex. Whether it's sacred sexuality, sexual magic or 'tantric massages', the word evokes an exotic or liberating sexual experience. But the Indian tantra sources do not focus on sex. What happened between India and the West? Phil Hine traces a tangled history that starts with pre-Victorian missionaries, involves Richard Burton, and even takes in the psychedelic sixties. Join us on the strange journey of an idea. Phil Hine has been writing on occult themes for over thirty years, and edited Pagan News from 1988 to 1992. His three books on Chaos Magic are Condensed Chaos, Prime Chaos and The Pseudonomicon. Current writing projects are at Enfolding, and older articles and free e-books are on his website. He practises a hybridised tantra, incorporating queer theory and continental philosophy.
