The Decline of the US Middle Classes and the Transformation of the Republican Party

Department of Government public lecture

This lecture will describe how the economic decline of the American white middle classes (which in US terms includes parts of what in Europe are called the working classes) is producing a form of radical conservatism which while it has specifically American features, also has sinister echoes of the European past.

This event marks the publication of a new edition of 'America Right or Wrong - An Anatomy of American Nationalism'.

Anatol Lieven is a professor in the War Studies Department at King's College London, and a senior fellow of the New America Foundation in Washington DC.
